They have been shown to improve quality of\nsleep by lessening symptoms of anxiety and making it easier for you to shut\ndown at night. Let\u2019s take a closer look at how they work, and the benefits of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weatherfordsleep.com\/what-is-sleep-apnea.html\">weighted blankets<\/a>\nin Weatherford. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Do Weighted Blankets Work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Think of being enveloped in a big hug by someone you love.\nThink of how relaxing and comforting it would feel. They exert what\u2019s known as \u201cdeep pressure stimulation.\u201d This kind\nof stimulation lowers arousal and decreases the body\u2019s fight or flight response.\nIt has also been proven to lower blood pressure and heart rate, and increase\ngeneral feelings of calmness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Are the Benefits of Weighted Blankets?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One major benefit of weighted blankets is that they\nstimulate the release of oxytocin, also known as the \u201cfeel-good\u201d hormone. It creates\nfeelings of closeness, attachment, and calmness. Think of the feelings you get\nwhen you receive a warm hug from someone close to you. That\u2019s oxytocin at work.\nOxytocin levels go up during sleep, particularly during deep REM sleep. A 2017\nstudy even found that higher levels of oxytocin during sleep may reduce the\nsymptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Weighted blankets may also decrease cortisol, also called the\n\u201cstress hormone.\u201d When you have high levels of cortisol, it can be difficult to\nfall and stay asleep. As your body progresses toward sleep each night, cortisol\nlevels naturally go down, but stress and anxiety can increase them again. Using\na weighted blanket can help your body naturally suppress the release of this\nhormone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, deep pressure stimulation from weighted blankets\nmay increase serotonin, another \u201cfeel good\u201d hormone that helps you stay in a\nrelaxed state of mind. It also stabilizes your mood and regulates your energy\nlevels. Low levels of serotonin have been linked to depression and anxiety, as\nwell as irregular circadian rhythms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you can see, weighted blankets help with sleep disorders\nlike insomnia and even sleep apnea.
